Alto al Miedo (Ceasefear),  2012

After four decades of activity across the Spanish territory, the Basque terrorist organisation ETA announced a permanent ceasefire in October 2011. Throughout its history, ETA had killed nearly a thousand citizens in over 3,000 attacks. From businessmen to policemen, journalists and politicians, their extortion activity affected practically every inhabitant of the Basque region and beyond. Silence, resilience and fear invaded the homes of families across the country, while they watched ETA’s announcement with great skepticism but with the hope it might finally bring permanent peace to their life and streets.

From this hopeful but still frightened perspective, the author produced Alto al Miedo as a personal response to forty years of unease existence in her home region.
